  • Lyudmila Chernischuk, from Uman, began the BCC program at public school #6 among students of 4th and 5th grades with 27 children total. Kids have received booklets with BCC lessons and also Lesson 1. She plans to start a Bible club in September as a follow-up after BCC.
  • .Larissa Bonchuk, from Vinnytsa: “I want you to share a great joy I have. Economical crisis stimulates public school teachers to support children spiritually. Here is what I mean by saying that. I had conducted a Bible hour in the public school for 9 years, and then I wasn’t allowed to do it for 7 years. Two months ago a teacher from this school invited me to come to school and start the Bible hour again”.

Trainings on BCC program:

We plan to have 2 training sessions for the BCC program for all interested churches in 2009.
During the 1st quarter we didn’t’ have any training but one church from Kamyanetsk – Podilskyi shared an interest in BCC training.

Youth Ministry

  • New Hope provided 225 lectures that helped us to reach 7,498 students. Annual plan is to reach 20,000 students
  • New Hope regional teams prepared 5 activities for 1,840 young  people in different cities of Ukraine
  •  New Hope Leaders did 9 presentations in 9 cities on NH ministry for 100 people.

Public School Ministry

During 1st quarter 2009 New Hope provided 225 lectures that helped reach 7,498 students of public schools in many regions of Ukraine.

Most of the meetings took place in public schools or colleges. One series of lectures we had in the National Academy for Tax Collectors of Ukraine. NH workers reached 1,200 students of that Academy.

Also we provided lectures in jail for children in Gorodok town (1 lecture per week); in orphanage/school for teen girls in Sudova Vyshnia (2 meetings per month); in orphanage/school Velykyi Lubin (2 meetings per month); in jail for teenagers in Sambir (1 meeting per month); in 4dormitories of National University in Uzhgorod (1 meeting per month)

Orphan Care - [read more]

  • During these three months we placed 5 orphans into the Christian families. We added three new families. Our caseworkers organized 19 support group meetings for families and 54 visits.

    Over 200 children have now been placed with Christian families.

Family Ministry

  • Dave Sanford pre-marital counseling training
    March 11-14 Pre-marital seminar/training for 12 people in Lviv.  Many of those people really wanted to learn how they can start or improve their family ministry. Their interest is proven by the time that they spend on traveling to get to training -27 hours by train from the eastern part of Ukraine.
  • New Hope family ministry team
    We hope that we will find couples among these people that will be a core for a NH family ministry team. There are two couples already that are opened to such a proposition.
  • Cooperation with the Christian Counselling Center
    Dave Sanford had discussions with representatives from CCC. We think that we can have one of the speakers from the Christian Counselling Center for the 2nd seminar/training in the autumn. But the main difficulty for lectors from CCC is travelling funds.
  • We see that non-believer families are more open to talk and share about their problems or family issues compared to Christian families. Hopefully the NH family ministry team will come up with new ideas about how we can use NH materials in order to win those families for Christ.

Publishing

We plan to produce 5 new resources for churches in 2009.  1st quarter progress :

  • “100 Active Bible Games for Children” – translated, edited and design is done, ready to for printer;
  • “100 Children’s Club Activities”– translated, in editing process;
  • Boundaries– translation is almost done (25 pages left);
  • Creative Correction” - translated, edited and design is almost done

The best sales we have are in children’s books and youth leader's material. We hope that we can re-print two popular books “100 Bible Crafts Ideas” and “100 Instant Children Talks”. We have more orders, especially for “100 Instant Children Talks” but we have 0 copies in storage. We will help many children's workers and families that wait for 4 books of this "100" series:

  • Print 100 Active Bible Games for Children

  • re-print 100 Bible Crafts Ideas
